What You Need To Know
To ensure that your trip to Portugal goes smoothly, here are some important tips before your arrival:
Documentation and Visas
Check if you need a visa to enter Portugal. Citizens of the European Union, the US, Canada, Australia, and several other countries do not need a visa for short stays (up to 90 days). Always confirm the latest requirements with your country's embassy or consulate.
Currency
The official currency is the Euro (€). It is advisable to have some cash for small expenses, but most places accept credit and debit cards.
Language
The official language is Portuguese, but in most tourist areas and hotels you will find people who speak English and sometimes Spanish and French.
Climate and Clothing
Portugal has a Mediterranean climate, with hot summers and mild winters. Check the weather forecast before traveling and bring comfortable clothing appropriate for the season. Don't forget sunscreen and a light jacket for cooler evenings.
Electricity
The voltage is 230V and the outlets are type F (two round pins). If necessary, bring an adapter for your electronic devices.
Health
If you have travel insurance, check that it covers medical expenses in Portugal. For European Union citizens, the European Health Insurance Card (EHIC) is accepted in public health services.
Covid-19 and Other Restrictions
Before traveling, check the latest updates on entry restrictions, testing, or quarantines related to the pandemic to avoid surprises.
