What You Need To Know

  • To ensure that your trip to Portugal goes smoothly, here are some important tips before your arrival:

Documentation and Visas

  • Check if you need a visa to enter Portugal. Citizens of the European Union, the US, Canada, Australia, and several other countries do not need a visa for short stays (up to 90 days). Always confirm the latest requirements with your country's embassy or consulate.

Currency

  • The official currency is the Euro (€). It is advisable to have some cash for small expenses, but most places accept credit and debit cards.

Language

  • The official language is Portuguese, but in most tourist areas and hotels you will find people who speak English and sometimes Spanish and French.

Climate and Clothing

  • Portugal has a Mediterranean climate, with hot summers and mild winters. Check the weather forecast before traveling and bring comfortable clothing appropriate for the season. Don't forget sunscreen and a light jacket for cooler evenings.

Electricity

  • The voltage is 230V and the outlets are type F (two round pins). If necessary, bring an adapter for your electronic devices.

Health

  • If you have travel insurance, check that it covers medical expenses in Portugal. For European Union citizens, the European Health Insurance Card (EHIC) is accepted in public health services.

  • Covid-19 and Other Restrictions

  • Before traveling, check the latest updates on entry restrictions, testing, or quarantines related to the pandemic to avoid surprises.
